1) My 2000 word Essay topic is " Why is Trudeau the Best Canadian Prime Minister so far." I will be discussing some of his tactics, policies, and accomplishments, as well as the controversy. 2) I selected this topic for the reason of recognizing what present day politicians and Prime Ministers are missing, and to share some of Canada's advances during the Trudeau era. 3) It is in Secondary Education classes such as Social Studies 9,10, & 11, First Nations 11 & 12, and History 12. As well in politics, and law. I say that it is incorporated in secondary classes because it is there that I first learned of PM Trudeau. I say in politics because today's politicians would look at past Prime Ministers and learn from their mistakes and the consequences of their actions, either good or bad. As well Politicians and courts, like the Supreme court of Canada, must live within the rules and policies introduced by the Trudeau era, i.e. the constitution. 4) The primary focus of this essay would be first politics, and from there would stem the issues regarding environment, resources, and the economy, since politics takes all the concerns of the nation it governs. 5) K: Off the Top: Trudeau was a Law professor who had served in the army during the second world war. He was at first a socialist, but turned liberal. He was in the news more then any other politician in Canadian history. His behavior was the biggest controversy, but since it was the time of the Hippie, he was being a man of the people. Just some of his greatest accomplishments was the Constitution of Canada, and his Foreign Policy Act. He is the most loved and most hated Prime Minister in Canadian History. W: I want to learn why the people loved him, and why they hated him, especially when he was the middle ground between the French Canadians and British Canadians. L: I know that Trudeau was a Law professor, who served, and was a socialist turn liberal. He became Canada's PM in a time where Quebec strongly wanted to separate from the rest of Canada, and Trudeau was sure he could be the middle ground between British Canadians and French Canadians. He was the Prime Minister who allowed French children to learn in French. He is also responsible for the Canadian Constitution, of which the French Premier wouldn't sign. To this day Quebec has not signed. He was also PM during the fear of nuclear, and missile attack from Russia, or even USA, because Canada was considered no mans land. He came up with his foreign policy to protect Canada. Probably the best foreign policy Canada has ever had. People also know him from his quotes "Just watch me...", the Trudeau salute, and his happy dances and bunny ears behind the Queen. 6) Some of the main issues was that from the constitution. In the fact that Quebec was allowed to over use the "notwithstanding clause" were as other premiers of provinces. For this reason perhaps that is why Trudeau came up with the controversial Amending Formula, were 9 of the premiers could make changes/write the constitution without all of Canada's premiers present. These two controversial factors lead to the very controversial "Kitchen Accord" where the Premier of Quebec was left excluded from the drawing of the constitution, in the wee hours of the day, because he was staying at a different hotel from the other premiers.
